Hospice fundraising: How to create supporters for life with Thyngs

Hospice fundraising: How to create supporters for life with Thyngs

You may have heard of contactless fundraising technologies like QR codes and Near Field Communications (NFC).

They’ve been a lifeline for charities during the pandemic, enabling them to continue to fundraise at a distance. We’ve seen many more charities using QR codes in creative ways to engage supporters during lockdowns.

But did you know that you can use these touch-free technologies do so much more than collect donations?

QR and NFC are the smartphone technologies that enable a digital experience to be activated via a physical object. It’s how your supporters are connected to your charity via their mobile phone.

You could connect them to your website or a donations page. But wouldn’t it be more fun to engage them via a mobile-optimised game, digital trail or your virtual event?

With templated experiences like these you can grow your reach, increase engagement and track your donations simply and quickly.

Here’s how the Thyngs platform will take fundraising events to new heights and nurture relationships with supporters.

1. See where donations come from and thank supporters

It’s easy to say thank you for donations using Thyngs. When someone donates, they receive a receipt which can be customised with your own thank you message. Alternatively, export in-depth reports and follow up with a personalised thank you message. With marketing and gift aid opt-in included you can keep supporters up to date with your charity news and events.

2. Help individuals raise money with easy digital tools

There’s no need to send individuals to a third-party fundraising page. Individual giving pages with your charity’s branding can be created instantly and personalised with your supporter’s story. You can even track individual giving pages in real time. There’s nothing extra you need to do. Simply direct supporters to create their giving page via your website and fundraising toolkit.

3. Increase reach and raise awareness with shareable experiences

Fun, visual and memorable experiences are more shareable online, enabling you to reach a wider audience. With ready-made mobile optimised pages, it’s easy for supporters to share updates via social media.

4. Set up and run events without involving your web and IT teams

We’ve taken care of the technology so you can focus on building and engaging your community of supporters. The web-based system uses customisable drag and drop templates to build any experience you want. And if there isn’t a template, we can create one for you.

5. Track engagement and fully compliant donations in real time

You can manage all of your campaigns in one place and use performance analytics to improve upon future campaigns. View your donation streams in detail, allocate funds easily, and optimise in-flight. Gift Aid is HMRC compliant, too.

Dorothy House Hospice ‘Get Elfie’ campaign

Dorothy House Hospice customised the digital collectables trail template to engage supporters at Christmas. Participants ran the 10k trail in Bath looking for QR codes. Using their phone to scan the codes, they could unlock one of 10 characters. There was also the option to take a selfie with each character and share via social media.

The real-time analytics meant Dorothy House Hospice could watch the collectable results come in. Granular data also gave the charity the unique opportunity to better understand the event. For example, they were able to establish the engagement levels across the 10K locations, including conversion rates.

  • 100% conversion rate
  • 330 unique smartphones scanned to collect all 10 of Dorothy’s friends

“We were delighted with the help we received from Thyngs, the use of QR codes as interaction points enabled us to deliver a safe and very well received activity this Christmas that would otherwise have had to be cancelled.

We will be exploring how to continue to use this technology into the future for other activities and I encourage others to do the same.” – Don Kennedy, Dorothy House Head of Corporate, Community and Events
