The Royal British Legion uses Thyngs technology to boost Pub Quiz fundraising
The Royal British Legion has teamed up with proximity payments company Thyngs on its 2018 Pub Quiz campaign, to make it even easier for people to support the Armed Forces community this November.
With 2018 marking 100 years since the end of the First World War, The Royal British Legion is urging people to hold a Pub Quiz to raise money for veterans and serving personnel alike, as a way of saying thank you to the First World War generation who served, sacrificed and changed our world.
Pub quizzes are an excellent way of bringing together the community and anyone wanting to host an event in aid of the charity this centenary year can apply for a free The Royal British Legion Pub Quiz pack, which includes six contactless joker donation cards alongside questions, answers and promotional materials.
Enabled by Thyngs’ near-field communication (NFC) and QR code technology, the interactive card lets quiz participants donate money by simply tapping or scanning it with their smartphone.
They can also see how much money has been raised in real time, or snap and share a Pub Quiz selfie, complete with joker’s hat. Any donations made using the cards are paid directly to The Royal British Legion, reducing administration costs, and simplifying the supporter experience.
Simon O’Leary, Assistant Director of Fundraising at The Royal British Legion, said: “We have been piloting a new fundraising product and wanted a cashless channel for supporters to donate that was easy to use, quick to set up and simple enough to explain in marketing materials.
“Thyngs created a new opportunity for us to receive donations that ticked all the boxes, giving us a reliable and engaging new fundraising mechanism that fits seamlessly within the pub quiz supporter journey.”
Thyngs CEO Neil Garner said: “The Royal British Legion was my inspiration for setting up Thyngs and it’s an honour to be able to work with the team for such an important and iconic cause. It’s also providing us with a great opportunity to prove how Thyngs works in a new environment like a pub quiz.”
