Payments via Thyngs

Thyngs provides an end-to-end card payment service designed for ‘on-the-go’ mobile payments which is perfect for collecting charity donations, ticket purchases or digital downloads.

Our service makes mobile card payments as easy as possible by:

  • Using existing digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Android Pay where available
  • Failing that, using the smartphone’s ‘card scan’ capabilities to capture the card number and expiry date from credit and debit cards
  • Using personal contact records to automatically provide required Gift Aid declaration fields
  • Remembering all card (and Gift Aid) details entered (except the three CVC digits) in a secure cookie so that any future payments are even easier.
  • Capturing the minimum amount of data necessary to process the transaction

How we process payments

Thyngs has partnered with Payment Card Industry (PCI) approved provider, Paythru, who host all card payment and Gift Aid collection pages on their secure payment grade servers. We currently process MasterCard and Visa credit and debit cards subject to our Payment Terms & Conditions.

How our fees work

Thyngs takes a 2.5% transaction fee from each payment made through our platform, in addition to any payment processing charges levied by Worldpay, Stripe or other card acquirers. For most charities, these charges will be more than covered by the additional Gift Aid that can be reclaimed. For example:

Donation received:          £10.00
Our 2.5% fee:                    £0.25
Card processing fee:       £0.34*
Total cost to charity:        £0.59
Gift Aid reclaimed:           £2.50
Total donation:                 £11.91

What we need from you

Thyngs works closely with an increasing number of bank card acquirers and is fully integrated with Worldpay. If your organization already uses Worldpay, you will simply need to create and provide us with a terminal key. Otherwise, you can set up a Stripe account via our platform and process payments on a ‘pay-as-you-go’ basis with no monthly subscription fee.

* Based on using Stripe @ 1.4% + 20p per transaction
